A vulnerability was found in PhpGedView 4.2.3 (Content Management System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file module.php. The manipulation of the argument pgvaction with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in module.php in PhpGedView 4.2.3 and possibly other versions, when magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via directory traversal sequences in the pgvaction parameter.

The weakness was published 01/05/2011 by dun (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at sourceforge.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-0405. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
