Details
A vulnerability was found in Objectivity Objectivity and db 10.0. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The server components in Objectivity/DB 10.0 do not require authentication for administrative commands, which allows remote attackers to modify data, obtain sensitive information, or cause a denial of service by sending requests over TCP to (1) the Lock Server or (2) the Advanced Multithreaded Server, as demonstrated by commands that are ordinarily sent by the (a) ookillls and (b) oostopams applications. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was published 01/14/2011 by Jeremy Brown with Brown as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-0489. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed by Jeremy Brown and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118915 (Objectivity/DB Administration Database Tools Remote Command Execution Vulnerability).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (64699), Exploit-DB (15988), SecurityFocus (BID 45803†), OSVDB (70424†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-29352†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
