Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Sybase WorkSpace up to 2.5. This affects some unknown processing of the component Replication. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in Sybase EAServer 6.x before 6.3 ESD#2, as used in Appeon, Replication Server Messaging Edition (RSME), and WorkSpace, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via "../\" (dot dot forward-slash backslash) sequences in a crafted request.
The weakness was released 01/11/2011 by iDefense Labs with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). The advisory is shared at labs.idefense.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-0497 since 01/20/2011. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
