A vulnerability was found in Avaya IP Office Customer Call Reporter 7.x/8.x (Reporting Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file ImageUpload.ashx. The manipulation as part of a PHP File leads to a unrestricted upload vulnerability. Unrestricted file upload vulnerability in ImageUpload.ashx in the Wallboard application in Avaya IP Office Customer Call Reporter 7.0 before 7.0.5.8 Q1 2012 Maintenance Release and 8.0 before 8.0.9.13 Q1 2012 Maintenance Release allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by uploading an executable file and then accessing it via a direct request.
The weakness was disclosed 06/28/2012 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) as ZDI-12-106 (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared for download at zerodayinitiative.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3811 since 06/27/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1608.002.
A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit and been published 4 months after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 219 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43261 (Avaya IP Office Customer Call Reporter ImageUpload Remote Code Execution Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 7.0.5.8 or 8.0.9.13 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
