A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Outlook Web App up to 14.1.287.0 (Groupware Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file owa/redir.aspx. The manipulation of the argument URL with an unknown input leads to a authentication spoofing vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-290. This attack-focused weakness is caused by incorrectly implemented authentication schemes that are subject to spoofing attacks. Impacted is integrity.
The bug was discovered 06/14/2012. The weakness was released 07/02/2012 by Yaniv Miron with FortConsult Security Research Team as not defined posting (OSVDB). The advisory is shared for download at osvdb.org. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at osvdb.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:owa/redir.aspx it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Zimbra, Hotmail or Gmail as an alternative.
