A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Nazgul Nostromo. This affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in nhttpd (aka Nostromo webserver) before 1.9.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary programs or read arbitrary files via a ..%2f (encoded dot dot slash) in a URI.
The bug was discovered 01/12/2011. The weakness was disclosed 03/15/2011 by RedTeam Pentesting with RedTeam Pentesting GmbH (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-0751 since 02/02/2011. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
