A vulnerability was found in Gentoo logrotate up to 3.7.9 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function createOutputFile of the file logrotate.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. Race condition in the createOutputFile function in logrotate.c in logrotate 3.7.9 and earlier allows local users to read log data by opening a file before the intended permissions are in place.
The weakness was released 03/30/2011 by Paul as Bug 680798 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-1098. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
