A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Foo Labs Xpdf (Document Reader Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality. Off-by-one error in t1lib 5.1.2 and earlier, as used in Xpdf before 3.02pl6, teTeX, and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a PDF document containing a crafted Type 1 font that triggers an invalid memory read, integer overflow, and invalid pointer dereference, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-0764.
The weakness was released 03/31/2011 by Jonathan Brossard as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-1554 since 03/31/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69647 (Amazon Linux AMI : t1lib (ALAS-2012-40)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks.
