A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apache HTTP Server up to 2.0.49 on AIX (Web Server). Affected is an unknown part of the component TCP/IP Handler. Apache 1.4.x before 1.3.30, and 2.0.x before 2.0.49, when using multiple listening sockets on certain platforms, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (blocked new connections) via a "short-lived connection on a rarely-accessed listening socket."
The weakness was published 03/20/2004 by Jeff Trawick with Apache Software Foundation (Website). The advisory is available at apache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2004-0174 since 02/25/2004. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
