Format string vulnerability in the logText function in shmemmgr9.dll in IGSSdataServer.exe 9.00.00.11074, and 9.00.00.11063 and earlier, in 7-Technologies Interactive Graphical SCADA System (IGSS) allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code, as demonstrated using the RMS Reports Delete command, related to the logging of messages to GSST.LOG. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

The weakness was published 04/05/2011 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1568. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/15/2025).

A public exploit has been developed by Luigi Auriemma and been published before and not just after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 14 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119093 (7T IGSS Multiple Vulnerabilities).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11076.
