A vulnerability classified as very critical was found in RealNetworks RealPlayer up to 14.0.2 (Multimedia Player Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation of the argument first with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The OpenURLInDefaultBrowser method in RealNetworks RealPlayer 11.0 through 11.1 and 14.0.0 through 14.0.2, and RealPlayer SP 1.0 through 1.1.5, launches a default handler for the filename specified in the first argument, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a .rnx filename corresponding to a crafted RNX file.
The weakness was disclosed 04/18/2011 by Peter Vreugdenhil (Website). The advisory is available at zerodayinitiative.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1426. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
