A vulnerability has been found in Digium Asterisk up to C.1.5 (Communications System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file manager.c of the component Manager Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. manager.c in the Manager Interface in Asterisk Open Source 1.4.x before 1.4.40.1, 1.6.1.x before 1.6.1.25, 1.6.2.x before 1.6.2.17.3, and 1.8.x before 1.8.3.3 and Asterisk Business Edition C.x.x before C.3.6.4 does not properly check for the system privilege, which allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via an Originate action that has an Async header in conjunction with an Application header.
The weakness was disclosed 04/26/2011 (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1599. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 53544 (Asterisk Multiple Vulnerabilities (AST-2011-005 / AST-2011-006)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Denial of Service.
Upgrading to version C.1.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
