A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Wireshark 1.4.0/1.4.1/1.4.2/1.4.3/1.4.4 on Windows (Packet Analyzer Software). The NFS dissector in epan/dissectors/packet-nfs.c in Wireshark 1.4.x before 1.4.5 on Windows uses an incorrect integer data type during decoding of SETCLIENTID calls, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted .pcap file.
The bug was discovered 04/14/2011. The weakness was presented 04/15/2011 as Bug 5209 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-1592 since 04/05/2011. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Upgrading to version 1.4.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
