Buffer overflow in VideoLAN VLC media player 1.0.5 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted .mp3 file that is played during bookmark creation.
The weakness was released 03/05/2010 by Gjoko Krstic (Website). The advisory is available at zeroscience.mk. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1087 since 02/24/2011. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
