Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Liferay Portal Community Edition (CE) 6.x before 6.0.6 GA, when Apache Tomcat is used, allows remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a message title, a different vulnerability than CVE-2004-2030.
The weakness was disclosed 05/07/2011 by Nicolas Gregoire (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-1570 since 04/05/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59230 (Liferay Portal < 6.0.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
Upgrading to version 6.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
