A vulnerability was found in Apache Subversion (Versioning Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component mod_dav_svn. The mod_dav_svn module for the Apache HTTP Server, as distributed in Apache Subversion 1.5.x and 1.6.x before 1.6.17, when the SVNPathAuthz short_circuit option is disabled, does not properly enforce permissions for files that had been publicly readable in the past, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via a replay REPORT operation.
The weakness was disclosed 06/06/2011 by Ivan Zhakov with Apache Software Foundation as Bug 709114 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-1921. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55001 (CentOS 5 : subversion (CESA-2011:0862)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119311 (Apache Subversion Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 1.6.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (67804), Tenable (55001), SecurityFocus (BID 48091†), SecurityTracker (ID 1025619†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-31720†).
