A vulnerability was found in Adobe Shockwave Player up to 11.6.0.x (Multimedia Player Software). It has been classified as very critical. This affects an unknown functionality in the library IML32.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The weakness was presented 06/16/2011 by Luigi Auriemma (TippingPoint) with TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-2116. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55142 (Shockwave Player < 11.6.0.626 (APSB11-17)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119333 (Adobe Shockwave Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB11-17)).
Upgrading to version 8.0.196 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11347.
