lib/logmatcher.c in Balabit syslog-ng before 3.2.4, when the global flag is set and when using PCRE 8.12 and possibly other versions, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a message that does not match a regular expression.

The weakness was presented 07/11/2011 as Bug 709088 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-1951 since 05/09/2011. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
