Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Oracle Fusion Middleware 8.3.2.0 (Middleware). This affects an unknown function of the component Outside In Technology. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Unspecified vulnerability in the Oracle Outside In Technology component in Oracle Fusion Middleware 8.3.2.0 and 8.3.5.0 allows context-dependent attackers to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability via unknown vectors related to Outside In Filters. NOTE: the previous information was obtained from the July 2011 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from a reliable third party that this is a stack-based buffer overflow in the imcdr2.flt library for the CorelDRAW parser.
The weakness was presented 07/20/2011 with Oracle (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-2264 since 06/02/2011. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/12/2025).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56413 (Symantec Enterprise Vault / Oracle Outside In Multiple Vulnerabilities (SYM11-011)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119458 (X1 Professional CorelDRAW Parser Buffer Overflow Vulnerability).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11637.
