CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-3009. There is not any exploit available. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Ruby 1.8.6 (Programming Language Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

Ruby before 1.8.6-p114 does not reset the random seed upon forking, which makes it easier for context-dependent attackers to predict the values of random numbers by leveraging knowledge of the number sequence obtained in a different child process, a related issue to CVE-2003-0900.

The weakness was released 08/05/2011 (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-3009 since 08/05/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68441 (Oracle Linux 4 / 5 : ruby (ELSA-2012-0070)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120022 (CentOS Security Update for Ruby (CESA-2012:0070)).

Upgrading to version 1.8.6 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (69157), Tenable (68441), SecurityFocus (BID 49126†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-34511†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
