The weakness was published 07/25/2012 by Martin Barbella (Slawomir Blazek) with Google Chrome Security Team as HT5400 as confirmed knowledge base article (Apple Security Announce). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3639 since 06/19/2012. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 60127 (Mac OS X : Apple Safari < 6.0 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
