Details
A vulnerability was found in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor 2.6.18 (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function napi_reuse_skb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The Generic Receive Offload (GRO) implementation in the Linux kernel 2.6.18 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 2.6.32 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, as used in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) Hypervisor and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via crafted VLAN packets that are processed by the napi_reuse_skb function, leading to (1) a memory leak or (2) memory corruption, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-1478.
The weakness was shared 08/31/2011 by ryan as Bug 695173 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-1576. The attack can only be done within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
