A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in Apple Safari up to 5.1.7 (Web Browser). Affected is some unknown processing of the component WebKit. WebKit, as used in Apple Safari before 6.0, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted web site, a different vulnerability than other WebKit CVEs listed in APPLE-SA-2012-07-25-1.
The weakness was shared 07/25/2012 by Julien Chaffraix (Slawomir Blazek) with Apple Product Security as HT5400 as confirmed knowledge base article (Apple Security Announce). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-3666 since 06/19/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 01/04/2025).
