Details
A vulnerability was found in Samba up to 2.2.12 (File Transfer Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function check_mtab. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does

properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
The check_mtab function in client/mount.cifs.c in mount.cifs in smbfs in Samba 3.5.10 and earlier does not properly verify that the (1) device name and (2) mountpoint strings are composed of valid characters, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (mtab corruption) via a crafted string. NOTE: this vulnerability exists because of an incorrect fix for CVE-2010-0547.
The weakness was presented 09/06/2011 as Bug 726691 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com.
