WebKit in Apple Safari before 6.0 does not properly handle Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) property values, which allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy via a crafted web site.
The weakness was released 07/25/2012 by Julien Chaffraix (Slawomir Blazek) with Apple Product Security as HT5400 as confirmed knowledge base article (Apple Security Announce). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The public release was coordinated with Apple. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-3691 since 06/19/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120376 (Apple Safari Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-07-25-1)).
Upgrading to version 6 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
