WebKit in Apple Safari before 6.0 does not properly handle drag-and-drop events, which allows user-assisted remote attackers to obtain sensitive information about full pathnames via a crafted web site.
The weakness was presented 07/25/2012 by Daniel Cheng and Aaron Sigel (Slawomir Blazek) with Google & vtty.com as HT5400 as confirmed knowledge base article (Apple Security Announce). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Apple. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-3694 since 06/19/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120376 (Apple Safari Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-07-25-1)).
Upgrading to version 6 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
