A vulnerability was found in W-Agora up to 4.2.1 (Content Management System). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file search.php3. The manipulation of the argument bn with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in search.php3 (aka search.php) in W-Agora 4.2.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the bn parameter.

The weakness was presented 10/05/2011 by MustLive (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-4867 since 10/04/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
