Oracle Database Server up to 11.2.0.3 CTXSYS.CONTEXT sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Oracle Database Server up to 11.2.0.3 (Database Software). This affects some unknown functionality of the file CTXSYS.CONTEXT. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

SQL injection vulnerability in Oracle Database Server 10.2.0.3, 10.2.0.4, 10.2.0.5, 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.2, and 11.2.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via vectors involving CREATE INDEX with a CTXSYS.CONTEXT INDEXTYPE and DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS.

The weakness was released 07/28/2012 by David Litchfield with NGSSoftware as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at teamshatter.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-3132 since 06/06/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. A authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details and a private exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 60048 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (July 2012 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19744 (Oracle Security Update For CVE-2012-3132).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (60048), SecurityFocus (BID 54884†), OSVDB (84564†), Secunia (SA50143†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1027367†). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at VDB-5697, VDB-5696, VDB-5695 and VDB-5694. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
