Incomplete blacklist vulnerability in the svEscape function in settings/plugins/ifcfg-rh/shvar.c in the ifcfg-rh plug-in for GNOME NetworkManager 0.9.1, 0.9.0, 0.8.1, and possibly other versions, when PolicyKit is configured to allow users to create new connections, allows local users to execute arbitrary commands via a newline character in the name for a new network connection, which is not properly handled when writing to the ifcfg file.

The weakness was published 11/04/2011 by Matt McCutchen as Bug 737338 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-3364. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68358 (Oracle Linux 6 : NetworkManager (ELSA-2011-1338)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks.
