A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Siemens Automation License Manager up to 5.1 (Automation Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function in the library almaxcx.dll of the component ActiveX Control. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Absolute path traversal vulnerability in the ALMListView.ALMListCtrl ActiveX control in almaxcx.dll in the graphical user interface in Siemens Automation License Manager (ALM) 2.0 through 5.1+SP1+Upd2 allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files via the Save method.
The weakness was released 01/08/2012 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-4532 since 11/22/2011.
