The Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting (AntiXSS) Library 3.x and 4.0 does not properly evaluate characters after the detection of a Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) escaped character, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via HTML input, aka "AntiXSS Library Bypass Vulnerability."

The weakness was presented 01/10/2012 by Adi Cohen with IBM Rational Application Security (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-0007 since 11/09/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57475 (MS12-007: Vulnerability in AntiXSS Library Could Allow Information Disclosure (2607664)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90770 (Microsoft AntiXSS Library Information Disclosure Vulnerability (MS12-007)).
