A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in HP Diagnostics. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file magentservice.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in magentservice.exe in the server in HP LoadRunner 11.00 before patch 4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted size value in a packet. NOTE: it was originally reported that the affected product is HP Diagnostics Server, but HP states that "the vulnerable product is actually HP LoadRunner."
The weakness was published 01/12/2012 by AbdulAziz Hariri (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at zerodayinitiative.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-4789 since 12/13/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/29/2025).
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
