Open redirect vulnerability in the redirector feature in phpMyAdmin 3.4.x before 3.4.1 allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary web sites and conduct phishing attacks via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was released 01/26/2012 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at phpmyadmin.git.sourceforge.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-1941 since 05/09/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 54630 (phpMyAdmin url.php Redirect (PMASA-2011-4)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and relying on port 80. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12505 (phpMyAdmin "url" Parameter URI Redirection Vulnerability (PMASA-2011-4)).
Upgrading to version 3.4.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at phpmyadmin.git.sourceforge.net. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
