A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Advantech WebAccess 5.0/6.0 (SCADA Software). This issue affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. Advantech/BroadWin WebAccess before 7.0 allows remote attackers to (1) enable date and time syncing or (2) disable date and time syncing via a crafted URL.
The weakness was presented 02/21/2012 by Luigi Auriemma with Information and Communication Security Technology (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-0237 since 12/21/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11895 (Advantech/BroadWin WebAccess Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 5.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
