A vulnerability was found in RIM BlackBerry PlayBook tablet (Tablet Operating System) (affected version not known). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the file process.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Heap-based buffer overflow in process.c in smbd in Samba 3.0, as used in the file-sharing service on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet before 2.0.0.7971 and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a Batched (aka AndX) request that triggers infinite recursion.
The weakness was disclosed 02/23/2012 as Bug 795509 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-0870 since 01/19/2012. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
