Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox before 15.0, Thunderbird before 15.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.12 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via vectors related to garbage collection after certain MethodJIT execution, and unknown other vectors.

The weakness was disclosed 08/28/2012 by Gary Kwong, Christian Holler, Jesse Ruderman, Steve Fink, Bob Clary, Andrew Sutherland and Jason Smith as mfsa2012-57 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-1971 since 03/30/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/31/2018).

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 831729 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
