A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Atmail AtMail Open up to 1.3. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the file compose.php of the component Webmail Client. The manipulation of the argument Attachment[] with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in (1) compose.php and (2) libs/Atmail/SendMsg.php in @Mail WebMail Client in AtMail Open-Source before 1.05 allow remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the Attachment[] parameter.

The weakness was presented 03/27/2012 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-1918 since 03/27/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
