A vulnerability was found in Quagga up to 0.98.4 (Network Routing Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function. The BGP implementation in bgpd in Quagga before 0.99.20.1 does not properly use message buffers for OPEN messages, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and daemon exit) via a message associated with a malformed Four-octet AS Number Capability (aka AS4 capability).
The weakness was disclosed 04/05/2012 with Mu Dynamics as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-0255 since 12/21/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
