RuggedCom ROS 3.2 cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in RuggedCom ROS 3.2. This issue affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

RuggedCom Rugged Operating System (ROS) before 3.3 has a factory account with a password derived from the MAC Address field in a banner, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain access by performing a calculation on this address value, and then establishing a (1) SSH or (2) HTTPS session, a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-1803.

The weakness was presented 04/27/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-2441 since 04/27/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.

The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 3.2 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (75244), Exploit-DB (18779) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-35174†). See VDB-60650 and VDB-63240 for similar entries. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
