A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel 2.6.32.51 (Operating System). Affected is the function fuse_notify_inval_entry. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in the fuse_notify_inval_entry function in fs/fuse/dev.c in the Linux kernel before 3.1 allows local users to cause a denial of service (BUG_ON and system crash) by leveraging the ability to mount a FUSE filesystem.
The issue has been introduced in 12/03/2009. The weakness was shared 05/24/2012 by Petr Matousek (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-3353 since 08/30/2011. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
