A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Symantec PGP Universal Server 3.2.1. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Key Search. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-264. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

Symantec PGP Universal Server 3.2.x before 3.2.1 MP2 does not properly manage sessions that include key search requests, which might allow remote attackers to read a private key in opportunistic circumstances by making a request near the end of a user s session.

The weakness was published 08/30/2012 by Greg Ose and Mark Gould with CME Group as SYM12-014 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at symantec.com. The public release has been coordinated with Symantec. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-3582 since 06/19/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue. This could result in the unauthorized exposure of that client’s private key during and immediately following an unauthenticated request from another PGP client.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 3.2.1 MP2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 55246†), OSVDB (85073†), Secunia (SA50464†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1027467†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
