The osf_getsysinfo function in arch/alpha/kernel/osf_sys.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.39.4 on the Alpha platform does not properly restrict the data size for GSI_GET_HWRPB operations, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a crafted call.
The issue has been introduced in 05/18/2011. The weakness was disclosed 06/13/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-2210 since 05/31/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx.
