A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 2.6.37.6 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function br_multicast_add_group. The br_multicast_add_group function in net/bridge/br_multicast.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.38, when a certain Ethernet bridge configuration is used, allows local users to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and system crash) by sending IGMP packets to a local interface.
The issue has been introduced in 01/04/2011. The weakness was released 06/21/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-0716. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592.004 for this issue.
