telnet.rb in Puppet 2.7.x before 2.7.13 and Puppet Enterprise (PE) 1.2.x, 2.0.x, and 2.5.x before 2.5.1 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on the NET::Telnet connection log (/tmp/out.log).

The weakness was presented 06/27/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at hermes.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-1989 since 04/02/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
