A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Invensys Wonderware Application Server up to 3.1.200 (Application Server Software). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file slssvc.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Stack-based buffer overflow in slssvc.exe before 58.x in Invensys Wonderware SuiteLink in the Invensys System Platform software suite, as used in InTouch/Wonderware Application Server IT before 10.5 and WAS before 3.5, DASABCIP before 4.1 SP2, DASSiDirect before 3.0, DAServer Runtime Components before 3.0 SP2, and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash or hang) via a long Unicode string.
The weakness was published 07/04/2012 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3007 since 05/30/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 3.1.201 eliminates this vulnerability.
