A vulnerability was found in VideoLAN VLC Media Player up to 2.0.1 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function Ogg_DecodePacket. Heap-based buffer overflow in the Ogg_DecodePacket function in the OGG demuxer (modules/demux/ogg.c) in VideoLAN VLC media player before 2.0.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted OGG file.
The weakness was published 07/12/2012 by SecuriTeam with SecuriTeam Secure Disclosure as ogg: Fix a heap buffer overflow. as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3377 since 06/14/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely.
