A vulnerability has been found in moodle 2.0/2.0.1/2.0.2/2.0.3/2.1 (Learning Management Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function moodle_enrol_external:role_assign in the library enrol/externallib.php of the component Authorization. The moodle_enrol_external:role_assign function in enrol/externallib.php in Moodle 2.0.x before 2.0.4 and 2.1.x before 2.1.1 does not have an authorization check, which allows remote authenticated users to gain privileges by making a role assignment.
The weakness was presented 07/16/2012 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.moodle.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-4295 since 11/04/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
