A vulnerability was found in Moodle (Learning Management Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality in the library lib/filelib.php of the component HTML Rendering. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a html injection vulnerability. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in lib/filelib.php in Moodle 2.0.x before 2.0.9, 2.1.x before 2.1.6, and 2.2.x before 2.2.3 allows remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via an assignment submission with zip compression, leading to text/html rendering during a "download all" action.
The weakness was published 07/20/2012 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.moodle.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-2364 since 04/19/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 2.0.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.moodle.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
