Details
A vulnerability was found in Python up to 3.3 (Programming Language Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function unicode_decode_call_errorhandler. The manipulation of the argument aligned_end with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The utf-16 decoder in Python 3.1 through 3.3 does not update the aligned_end variable after calling the unicode_decode_call_errorhandler function, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information (process memory) or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and crash) via unspecified vectors.
