A vulnerability was found in Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator (Network Encryption Software) (affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component VPN Handler. The manipulation of the argument Group Password with an unknown input leads to a missing encryption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-311. The product does not encrypt sensitive or critical information before storage or transmission. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.
The bug was discovered 04/15/2004. The weakness was disclosed 04/15/2004 by Karl Gaissmaier, Jonas Eriksson and Nicholas Kathmann (window) (Website). The advisory is shared at cisco.com. The attack can only be done within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at cisco.com.
